ʻOli Komo Opens the Virtual Cultural Festival
Aloha kakahiaka (good morning)! For nearly 40 years, Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park has hosted an annual festival to share traditional Hawaiian cultural practices with visitors and the community, but due to COVID-19, we can’t do it in person this year. Instead, we invite you all to a #VirtualCulturalFestival! We open the festival by calling everyone together by blowing the pū (Hawaiian conch shell), and requesting permission to begin by chanting Oli Komo together. Oli Komo was written by Kumu Kepā Maly for the park to share. Follow along with our posts every day this week at 8:08 am (except the noon watch party for Saving ‘Ōhi‘a on July 8). We welcome you to your Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park! #FindYourVirtualPark NPS Video
